Run A Scenario

Leading up to election day, you can run data simulations to ensure the confidence you need to have a flawless broadcast. When you have completed your simulations and training, you can reset the system to be ready for election day coverage. During your broadcast, Elector can seamlessly mix automated data with content entered manually by your operators to ensure that you can broadcast up-to-the minute results on election day.

Running a scenario involves four (4) steps:

  1. Enter data into Elector

    1. manually OR

    2. with the Election Results Simulator

    3. with the https://bannisterlake.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/EL/pages/1441529865

  2. Create a Scenario Backup File

  3. Restore a Scenario Backup File

  4. Reset Election Data

Enter Data into Elector Manually

You can configure Flow to allow users to toggle between automated and manual data riding data updates for Party Standings. See Preferences/Configuration Keys for details.

You can manually update election data, including votes, polls reporting, and party standings, as part of a pre-broadcast simulation run-through or as a staff training session.

Elector is typically configured for an automated data feed, and when it is, you can update data manually; however, your data may soon be replaced with incoming automated data feed updates. An automatic data configuration will display a warning as follows:

Update Votes & Polls Reporting

  1. From the Home page, at the top navigation click on the votes icon

    1. or select Manual Updates > Candidate Votes

  2. Select a Riding from the list.

  3. Modify the Votes values as needed.

  4. Modify the Polls Reporting value if needed.

  5. Click Update Now. Flow is instantly updated with the latest data.

NOTE:

When enabled, the "Keep party seats in synch" option will automatically recalculate the party seats (leading/elected) after applying the changes to the votes and update them to match. This process also fixes any bad elected candidates by removing the elected flag for any candidate that is not leading.

As of build 11.4.4.5 entering manual updates also creates data for the Results Timelines. NOTE: that setting all candidate votes and polls reporting to 0 in a riding here will clear the timeline data for the riding.

Flow tracks all riding changes in the system in the Recent Riding Changes list.

Update Party Standings

  1. From the Home page, at the top navigation click on the party seats icon

    1.  or find it in the Manual Updates section - Party Seats

  2. Update party standings data as needed.

  3. Click Update Party Seats.

NOTE: When enabled, the "Keep party seats in synch" option will automatically recalculate the party seats (leading/elected) based on candidate votes and update them. This process also fixes any bad elected candidates by removing the elected flag for any candidate that is not leading.

Create a Scenario Backup File

To create a backup of your current Elector data:

  1. From the Home page, select System Tools > Scenario Backup & Restore.

  2. In the Create Scenario Backup section, enter a Comment to help you identify this backup in some meaningful way.

Restore a Scenario Backup File

To restore data from a previous backup, select the Restore option from one of the backups listed in the Restore Scenario list.

This process will automatically recalculate the party seats (leading/elected) based on candidate votes and update them. It also fixes any bad elected candidates by removing the elected flag for any candidate that is not leading.

Note: You can delete old backups from the list by clicking the red ❌ to Delete. Click OK to confirm.
